All students have to learn history and it seems to be the hardest of all subjects. But when I began to learn it, I didn??t find it difficult. All we had to do was to read textbooks, write summaries and take part in class discussions. So by the time the teacher set the first homework, I thought I could get an A without doing much work.
However, my first homework was a real failure. My face turned red as I read the teacher??s comments. She wrote, ??Teresa, it seems to me that you need to learn how to structure your writing.??
I knew she was right. I had been writing stories all the time and I just structured my history writing like that. When I wrote a story, I could start a new paragraph more freely, but this was not how history writing worked.
I rewrote the homework four or five times, and asked my classmates for help before I finally handed it in. With continued rewriting, my homework changed a lot. My second paper received a high grade.
These are my happiness and sadness. Each one makes me try harder next time.
