I study English literature. I love the old Gothic horrors like Lewis' The Monk.

The origins of English Gothic literature coincided with the gothic revival - of gothic architecture and of medieval fiction. So Gothic also refers to medieval.
Often gothic literature is set in old gothic castles with gargoyles.
Today's Goths identify with Gothic literature themes and Victorian Gothic literature such as Dracula.

People often look at how I dress and go, "Are you a goth?" I'll go ahead and answer yes. Then they start asking me about bands -- and really I don't listen to anything written after about 1830, so I know nothing on music. I assume some people think it's all about music (I know the Hot Topic stores originated as music shops.)
