When i was young I tossed the crusts. Only wanted the "soft" part. then one day i was so hungry between classes and a friend i sat with was throwing away the crust. It had a little ham salad on it. I asked for it. Oh it was so good. Now i eat it but my favorite crust comes from home made bread. It is crunchy. I love it with lots of butter. MMMMMMMMMM. Mary

I don't like crust.

When I was a kid...my evil ex-stepmother would make me eat the crust and I HATED the crust! I swore to myself the when I was old enough to buy my own bread and make my OWN sandwiches...I would never EVER eat the crust. EVER.

So now...when Jonnythan and I go out for breakfast..I only eat the middles of my toast. When I make a sandwich..I either cut off the crust or just eat the middle.

NO MORE CRUST!

And I throw the ends of the bread away.

I don't mind the crust, but the middle part is the best. If it's crunchy at all, then I'll give the crust to my dog because she likes bread and I hate crunchy crusts!

Did you feed it to the birds?

There were no birds to feed it to inside the restaurant. I looked and looked and looked but they just wouldn't fly by.

So I left it covered in Russian dressing on my plate with the uneaten pickle. *Shrugs*

Simple Good Bread.

Water 1 qt
Bread Flour 3#4 oz
yeast 1/4 oz
salt 1oz

Knead and set in a warm place until it doubles. Punch it down and let it come up again.

Scale and make up.
Give a full proof and bake in a 450 F oven on a baking stone with steam.

bake until done. 15-30 min depending on size of bread. Large loaved probably should be baked at 425 F

I eat the crusts on bread in the middle part of the loaf, but the 2 end pieces get fed to my child!

Simple White Bread

"Easy to make." Original recipe yield: 2 loaves.

INGREDIENTS:
2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
2 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
1/2 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 tablespoon salt
8 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon butter, melted

DIRECTIONS:
In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Add remaining water, dry milk, oil, sugar, salt, and 3 cups of flour; beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 3 minutes, or until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 6 to 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease surface. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth. Let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Punch the dough down, and divide in half. Shape into loaves. Place in two greased 9 X 5 x 3 inch loaf pans. Grease the tops of the loaves, and cover with a damp cloth. Let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 35 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove bread from pans to cool on wire racks. Brush with melted butter or margarine.
