I swear that being out in the rain with no coat is what gives me permanent colds

Perception is not reality.

Cross Country is awful. I remember having to do that in the rain too. The field was a mud bath and I got my f***ing shoe stuck

Lol, how people can react so horribly bad. Snow's not a reason to stay home, as it apparently happens in places every year and school's cancelled. Heavy Rains is lovely, and hey, just put on some more clothes if that's the issue, no biggie

This thread has nothing to do with people staying home due to snow... although the six inches of snow we got Sunday night didn't stop anyone from going to school or work on Monday in my town.

Sounds to me like you heard a news story about some school getting canceled somewhere in the southern US because they were getting some snow. This happens every now and then, because many southern states and cities *never* see snow and do not have any capability whatsoever to deal with it. There are no plows, no salting trucks, etc etc. I remember when it snowed once in New Orleans (once! in about 20 years) and the streets literally turned to glaze ice because there wasn't a salt truck for 100 miles in any direction.

Don't let information stop you from making judgments about places you know nothing about, though.

bah, rain shouldnt stop play! when i was at school, it snowed so hard during on PE leason that we had to play 5 a side football because visability was so bad we couldnt play on a full sized pitch! Then the snow got so bad the lovely whit foot ball dissapered if you tried to dribble it at any kind of speed and people spent more time on there arse than on their feet!

I sympathise. We had to play in the snow/hail for two hours on a Friday morning. I'm surprized no one got hypothermia or at least chilblaines that day.

At my school it's the total opposite. We get kept inside if it's a bit damp or breezy.
