Man cuts off thumb, but docs find a replacement.

The statement "I'd rather have no thumb." is pretty stupid.
I have an aquaintance who had that done many years ago. It was a success and his movement is normal. he is able to use his hand as before and altho he missed his toe for a while There is no permanent difficulty with walking or grasping.
Before you make a statement like that, immobilize your thumb for a day or two and see how you's react to the operation.

I'm with you completely, I remember in 3rd grade we had an activity where we couldn't use our thumbs on the playground during all of recess. It was terrible! Nobody could throw balls, or climb on the monkey bars... Altho, it was a cool experience

Its not stupid. I broke my right thumb (I'm right handed) in a horse riding accident. For one I went with it broke for two days, then in a cast for 6 weeks, then in a brace for 4 more. I did perfectly fine other than writing, which I learned to do with my left hand. I even started college this way. I mastered zippers. I could even curl my hair with a curling iron. Before I have my toe on my hand, I'd rather just not have a thumb.
