My dad came to visit today. So he visited and stuff, and when he was getting ready to leave, he went to hug me, and my dog jumped up, then jumped onto him and pushed him away, and barked. He went to give me another hug, and she did it again. Her tail was wagging and she didn't bite, but she wanted to show my dad that as much as she loves him (and she really does) no one comes near me unless I say it's ok.
Hence the topic name, "Hey! Don't touch my girl!"
This whole having a protective dog makes me feel really safe. She's a German shepherd mix, and shepherds are known for being protective. Good family dogs too. She's a sweetheart, but when a stranger is at the door, her bark will scare all. And if you come near me, she'll be watching to make sure you don't try to hurt me. Although she didn't bite my dad, I think if a stranger were to be near me she might take a piece of out him.
Also I've noticed at night, when I go to hug my mom good night, she'll raise her head and perk her ears up, and give a soft "woof." I guess sometimes she doesn't realize it's me, since it's dark and all, but she realizes there's someone approaching my mom while she's sleeping. So she's protective of the two of us. When my brother and I are fighting, she gets in the middle and usually takes my side. She might go and get a toy to try to distract us from fighting. I think it's really cute.
