Is it possible, for there to be a completely 3D user interface?

Im not talking about the new Vista Aero 3D, but rather the logon screen to XBOX. As in, an orb in the centre, with START MENU floating beside it. Coming off that, in branches, could be more, "orbs", like COMPUTER, or PICTURES or INTERNET EXPLORER etc. The "camera" angle would zoom in on each sphere that you clicked on, and would rotate. Also, after every click, new branches would come off the orb you just pressed, sort of like Windows Exporer style.

Firstly, does this exist at all?

Secondly, how hard would it be to make?

Obviously, this is not your everyday, wanting to get things done quickly type of OS, rather the, wow that looks cool type of interface! I mean seriously, imagine having this kind of interface on a touchsreen plasma on your wall to browse through movies and pictures!

i dont think so.

for a completely 3D OS you would probably need to make it using holograms. which don't really exist, and if they do i think it would be a long time before they could show the same amount (or greater) detail than what we use now
