has anyone heard of the ministry of truth? it's through their blog that i became fully aware of the gap in our political system. they have a documentary coming out on 11th october 2007 bbc2 about precisely this issue. www[dot]ministry-of-truth[dot]net - take a look at it if you are interested, they have a great 'beginners guide' which is a kind of taster for the doc

There are no laws here in the US covering such a thing. When a candidate makes a firm promise, which is almost never, and fails
to keep that promise, he/she will most likely lose the next election.
Many people think that if a candidate says they want to do a certain
thing if elected that that constitutes a promise.
Honesty only comes into play if an elected official votes a certain
way that helps business that he has a financial interest in. Or,
actually steals or misuses public funds for personal gain.
I have learned over the years that the public in this country is
seriously lacking the knowledge of how our govt actually works.
People are calling for the impeachment of Bush for "war crimes".
It appears that anytime a politician does anything that someone
thinks is wrong then the attacks start from the opposition and are
seldom kept to the subject at hand but end up as personal attacks.
Too bad there wasn't a law against that kind of thing.
