Metallica's vocals are similar to looooads of bands, Dream Theater and Trivium instantly come to mind. I've not listened to much Slayer, everyone always recommends it to me, but I've never been bothered to check them out. Aside from Raining Blood and Angel of Death.

Slayer has a similar tone of voice with Metallica, but Slayer has faster pace and
heavier riffs. Overall, Slayer is just more intense and heavy.

Yeah that's what I heard, when I first heard of them I was told they were like metallica, but just a lot heavier.

wat da fek r u talkin bout???

how the hell can u compare slayer to metalasslika!!!!
their not even in the same universe man, metalika were always gonna sell out for the dollar or pound! who the hell wants an orchestra in speed/thrash metal anywhey!
in a battle of music Slayer would rip hetfields a** wide open and stick a marshal amp up his ass!

its simple ok slayer = speed/thrash metal gods
Metalika = panzee assed sell outs and i got the first 4 of their albums, they had peaked by "ride the lightning" and should have called it quits.
slayer meanwhile keep it brutal while interesting, checkout "angel of death" and then "bloodline" 2 get my point.

right then! im off me soapbox. your replies most welcome.

I brought 7 metallica CDs and thought they where wicked but slowly got bored of em, then I brought 8 Slayer CDs and it became noticable that there singing sounds simular, but Toms singing is grundgeyer then James Hetfields in my opinion. I think that Toms singing style is heavyer.....maybe not better but heavyer.

Of course Slayer and Metallica have similar vocal styles: they're the same genre. Bands within
the same genre generally have similar musical styles; hence them being in the same genre.
I mean Death Metal bands like Cannibal Corpse and Necrophagist have similar vocal styles
Black Metal Bands like Immortal and Enslaved have similar vocal styles (I'm assuming, so don't
flame me if I'm wrong)
Prog Metal bands like Symphony X and Nevermore have similar vocal styles
Having similar vocal styles is just inherent in them both being (or have been in Metallica's
case) Thrash Metal bands.

But yeah, if you haven't checked out slayer yet, here's a two part plan:
1) get the f*** out of the Metal forum
2) listen to some SLAYER!!
