Teaching intelligent design in biology classes is like teaching demonic posession in psychology classes.

Discuss.

No, teaching demonic possession alongside psychology would actually make sense. Infact, teaching religion in psychology would make sense too...

Not the psychology classes I've ever taken, except as perhaps a historical note on old beliefs.

If it is to be taught in school then it should be taught in a philosophy class.

I feel ID and Religious Studies can be taught in a class that focuses on the human mind (or a priori mechanisms therein). Perhaps philosophy might be better, but ID certainly shouldn't be taught as part of science as it has not developed through the scientific philosophy.

it definatly shouldn't be thought in schools.
its a school of thought developed to justify the bible in the face of growing scientific evidence against it.

people can believe anything they want, but religion is a family matter and should not be thought in schools to other peoples children.

in school people should be thought objectivly when they reach a more mature age, say in high school, about where religion comes from, the history of religious texts and about different religions through out the world and their practices, since it is one of the most important issue in our world and history.

intelligent design has no place in a science class.

as a side note i would like to point out that alot of what is thought in science books to very young children, is shown too them as cold hard fact when it is not.
i'd to see more qualifying terms and an understanding that we are still trying to learn more about our world, the importace of questioning the world around us and the basic principle of the scientific method and what it means.

inteluhgunt desine has no place in the classroom, and certainly not in science. It's a modern guess at how the universe came into being, with no evidence behind it whatsoever.

Until someone finds the manufacturers label on the Earth, and it says "made in Wolf 359 by Planetcorp Industries, planet builders extraordinaire" then we have no reason to believe that we were created by another group of beings. Even if we were, it hardly answers any of the greater questions, does it? I mean - who created them? It just shifts the debate to another level.

I call it as BS made up purely as a political counterpoint to evolution. It's a transparent attempt to get creationism into science classes.

Totally agree. Scientific method and philosophy should be taught. Saying that, it is neccassary to 'teach' the easy and almost true lies before you get to actual truth at a higher level. How could you hope to explain the true structure of an atom to a child, for example.

And again, ID is not something which adhers to the scientific process so it shouldn't be taught in Science class.

If they called it UNtelligent design and pointed out all the ways humans could be better then at least it might have some educational value.

Yup. Childrens development doesn't really get to the higher stages until around high school.

Intelligent design is not a hypothesis. It's not something that can be tested. It cannot be verified or proved false.

It is not science by any definition of science, and therefore does not belong in a science classroom in any capacity.

Intelligent design is like examing a crime scene without doing an autopsy and erasing evidence that doesn't fit the theory while fabricating more evidnece. It doesn't work. It should definately stay away from the classroom and closer to ward 19
