does anyone have a link?

i don't fancy going through 15 pages to find one

https://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19160965/
Keep in mind it is an article about the studies and they are based on statistics only.

from what i can see that article is just arguing that the death penalty has deterrent effects.

but im not denying this, IMO the death penalty most definitely has a deterrent effect.
what i am arguing is, so far(that i know of)there is no conclusive evidence that shows the death penalty has a better deterrent effect, than a life long prison sentence does.

How would you determine if it has had an effect? No sane person would say, I was going to kill him, but that death penalty changed my mind.

I can agree with your assessment. Though I believe the death penalty is a just punishment in some cases, what is most important is that the worst criminals never have the chance to commit such crimes again. Life in prison or death, as long as they are no longer among the public.

we can't

hence why i believe we shouldn't support the death penalty because its has "better" deterrent effects than a life long prion sentence.

because its not possible to know if it does.

i think thats something we can all agree on.

i'd rather the person got the prison sentence.
but, if there was no other choice, i'd prefer the person to be executed than rather let him free.

I'm for it. Life is not without consequence and If we reserve it for the sickest of crimes it is a strong deterrent.
However how do you deal with someone who is prepared to die?
torture or humiliation.
