You know the old saying when you get sick, take vitamin C! A review of 30 studies has shown vitamin C does little to help fight colds.
However the article does say vitamin C might cut the chances of getting a cold in half if you are a person exposed to severe cold or physical stress.

I would take exception to the study. 200 milligrams is not very much. Another thing, it doesn't say what form the vitamin c was in. If it was citric acid, it may have already been rendered useless to the body. Also, some forms only stay in the body for a short time.

Personally, when I feel something coming on, I take about 1200+ milligrams a day of a high quality formulation. It works for me.

your choice, I personally don't understand it. Thinking out of the box sometimes produces some very good things in our lives.

No offense or anything, but this has been common knowledge for a long time.

Zinc can help minimize the effects of a cold, though, especially if you catch it early.

I found that if a cold is coming on hit it with some angelica tea. Works wonders. Other than that there really isn't much you can do to stop getting a cold.

Echinacea is also good at preventing and alleviating colds, apparently.

We shouldn't think of vitamins as quick fixes to any particular condition. Vitamins and minerals are vital to good health, but you have to take high quality supplements in high enough dosages, regularly. The result over time will be that your overall health improves, and that can result in fewer colds. Shorter colds, at the very least. But waiting until you're sick and then mega-dosing on a particular vitamin isn't likely to do much for you.
