Some thing i read on the weekly gripe, and a good point if you ask me....

Please help, I'm apparently not a really intelligent person and I'm confused about a certain law in this country. Why is it that when I want to buy a television I have to prove I have a TV licence and register the television at my address, yet when I buy a car I don't have to prove that I have a driving licence?

Yet despite this I can buy a car, drive it around with no licence, insurance and even be a disqualified driver. All this will only come to light if I was to be actually stopped by police, or involved in an accident - maybe even killing someone.

Are we to assume then that having a TV Licence is more important to our government than having to prove you have a driving licence when buying a dangerous weapon?

Could any one please explain this concept to me because I'm at a loss for words. Surely not having a television licence for your TV is the lesser of the two evils here?

I do have to agree Mark. You could go out and buy a car from any Tom, d*** or Harry and if it has tax and MOT will go unnoticed if the driver is fit to drive or has no insurance unless gets collared for speeding, road accident etc.
But the TV licensing detectors go around everywhere checking that TVs aren't being used without a licence.

I also don't understand this kind of thinking either

Just thinking about licences. You need a licence to get married but can have children willy nilly with not so much as a form to be completed.

The same could be said for dogs, you used to need one to own a dog and it made more responsible owners.
