Hi,
I've got a DJing gig this Sunday (18th March, another in June & September), playing SKA for 4-5 hours.
The last time I played at this venue, i think I exhausted my SKA collection - Which largely consists of 'original' ska (i.e. Jamaican).
The bad news is, this particular crowd aren't purists. So, naturally, the original Jamaican ska went down like warm beer.
However, as soon as I played all the singles by The Beat, The Specials, The Selector etc etc. The place rocked.
My concern is, there's only so much you can play until you start running out of 'hit singles', and have to dip into 'album tracks' that, not everyone will know.
I'm hoping people here will post up a list of fave tracks that THEY'D want to hear when they go out.
I'm sure it'll help jog my memory and, maybe turn me on to songs I might've missed.
I want to make it a great night. So, I'd be really grateful for your help
Be quick though, it's this Sunday night!
Much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
B

Thanks.
Last time, I played 'Israelites', '007 (Shanty Town)' & 'It Mek'
Obvious, I know, but like I said, this particular crowd aren't purists!
Keep the tracklists comin

I think the audience expect to hear typical stuff...
Madness, The Beat, The Specials, The Selector etc.
But, I blend in original jamaican ska...Trojan stuff etc. as well.
I haven't really delved into 'modern ska' like, Reel Big Fish. Although, I did play their version of 'Hungry Like The Wolf' once.
If there are any 'modern ska' anthems, i probably don't know them. So, please feel free to list those too

must play desmond decker. play some operation ivy, the pietasters or voodoo glow skulls. and if you want really recent ska then try some aquabats or reel big fish or maybe big d and the kids table. and if that doesn't work you can always resort to playing no doubt. lol.

Madness will always be a big hit. Along with The Specials.

I recommend some Mad Caddies songs. Not original, but more like the oldies than Reel Big Fish or Less Than Jake.
