Macbook Question about start up screen

Hi I am a new MacBook user. (PC's for most of my career). I have a question. I got a new
MacBook last month and just recently when I start my computer, the regular startup screen
appears but also IPhoto loads up. I have quit the program from the menu bar (as i do other
apps) but it still loads with my start up screen. Any suggestions?
