BOSTON, Jan. 2 ? Massachusetts, the only state where same-sex marriage is legal, took a first step toward banning it today when legislators voted to advance a constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union between a man and a woman.

The amendment still needs to be approved by at least 50 legislators in another vote in the 2007-2008 session. Then it would be placed on the November 2008 ballot as a popular referendum. If it passed, the amendment would not do away with the more than 8,000 same-sex marriages that have taken place since they became legal in May 2004. But it would prevent future marriages of gay men and lesbians.

I really think that being gay is nothing to do with people and if they want to get married let them... get off your soap boxers Homophobes.... and get yourself out of the closet....

True straight people know there sexuality and can go to gay clubs and have a laugh...

Live and let live....

I think they just have nothing better to do with thier time so they come up with some mad idea of banning gay marriages?
Ill bet the same people that are passing this legislation are having problems within thier own marriages... i mean really why nit pick at something unless it was actually threatening you.

I agree with treebee it will be accepted worldwide and those people making the legislation will look like idiots

*sigh* Banning gay marriage won't help anything...it's only going to make things worse. Let the homos love like anyone else...I have lots of gay friends, and I think that they need to be able to get married like anyone else. Equal rights!!

Great. Good reason for me to be annoyed with Mass. And a good excuse not to go there.
