"Typical" people

Another thread title addresses Obama?s statement ?she was a typical white person.? My first thought is, ?and we have a problem with this why?? Aren?t there typical WASPy white people? Typical Chinese, African American, Cuban, etc. whatever?

I have no problem with it. I'm a typical middle (ish) class white girl from the south of England and if someone said that about me i don't think I would be remotely offended.

In my neck of the woods, typical white people live in trailors and drive their homes away for a while whenever a tornado comes by That d***! Maknig fun of us like that *tear*

I think this 2008 election is just running away with the crazy boat and anyone is jumping on anything anyone says or does, particularly obama.

Most people are typical. Everyone does pretty much the same thing. Eat, sleep, work, play.... It's all typical.
As far as specifying it in regards to a particular race, there's nothing wrong with calling someone typical. Unless it's meant in a derogatory manner.

I'm sooooooooooooooo over race I could just spit, but that wouldn't be very waspy of me and so I shall refrain and just look down my nose and give a slight eye roll adn flick of the wrist to indicate my displeasure and dismissal of the race topic.

What!? Who wants to be the same?!

Within every culture there are so many different subcultures that I find it hard to say typical this or that when refering to a race of people. I'm sure the successful business man would take offence to being lumped in as a typical redneck.
Why should we strive to all be the same? What is wrong with pointing out our differences - why has it become un-pc to be different.
