Why is it that people actually refer to certain words as offensive? Have you noticed that the only time a word is offensive is when YOU allow it to have some hold over yourself? If I were in a conversation, and someone were to call me a cracker, is that supposed to hurt me somehow? You called me a name, and it is supposed to hurt my feelings so much that it reduces me to a whining fool? Either grow a thicker skin, or just do us all a favor now and off your damn self. Seriously, it's a f***ing word, uttered by another person, nothing more. Are there words that are a sign of disrespect, yes, but at the same time, these aren't truly offensive unless the person hearing them takes them as offensive. I've had more than one situation where someone has spoken in a manner which would be seen as disrespectful to me, but it doesn't bother me, because it's just one person's opinion. There's an old saying, opinions are like a*****es, everyone has one, and some are more filthy than others. I can understand how saying a word like nigger, wop, kike, spic, cracker, honkey, whitey, or anything else is seen as disrespectful, but they still aren't offensive. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we as a whole need to get over the fact that some words aren't really to our liking, and grow a thick skin. If you let someone get in your head, just by using a certain word, then you've already lost. This might stir up some good responses, and will certainly drag in some bad, but I really couldn't care less. Just my opinion on the subject.
