An estate agent who took a prospective buyer to view a house in central England found the owner hanging dead in a closet, the agency said Thursday.

It was the first viewing of the 350,000 pound ($700,000) hosue which had been on the market for a week. The owner was hanging from a belt inside a walk-in closet in the main bedroom.

"It was quite a shock," said a spokesman for estate agents Hartleys. "Our agent quickly ushered everyone out, locked the property and called the authorities."

The owner, a single man in his 40s, is thought to have committed suicide. He inherited the house from his mother who died recently, the estate agents said.

You know, I know people in the real estate business and they always are at the house days or hours prior to showing it to their clients to clean up and make it look the best it can.
I'm surprised that a walk-in closet for the main bedroom went unchecked.... and oddly enough no one knew this man was missing? I'm sure anything was possible but it just seems weird.

How the heck was it on the market if the owner was dead?

Surly they would have had to have confirmed a viewing with the owner?!?

He most likely put it up on the market before killing himself?

Don't think anyone else could have if he was the owner of the house. But it's just a weird thing to do.

Yes but for the agents to use the house for viewings, someone would have needed to confirm with the person who owned the house,......if he was dead, how did they manage to confirm?

Does that mean they lower the price? If I viewed a home and fund a body dangling in a closet, post shock, that would be my first question.
I'm warped like that though

That ran through my head too when I first read that. Wondered if the people being shown the house asked that. I know I would.

The same people who don't mind living in a house where murders took place.

People like the ones where I live who are currently living in the infamous Amityville house

Is it that someone died in the house that bothers you or the way in which they died?

Death is just part of life, wouldn't bother me.

The way in which they died. Tbh I am aware people die all the time, and your probably more likely to buy a house where someone, over the past has died in it....but to actually have seen a body hanging in a closet, i dont think id wanna move in there!

I suppose having seen the body it could be a little creepy. You might have a point there!
