New York Yankees(7-7), tied for 3rd in American League East.

The Yakees are heading home for a nine-game homestand on a good note.

Mike Mussina pitched a gem and Alex Rodriguez homered in his third straight game enabling the Yankees to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

A-Rod tied Juan Gonzlez for 35th place when he drilled his 434th career homer in the fifth inning.

"I'm getting more comfortable," said Alex Rodriguez.

Mike Mussina(2-1) was dominant: struck out seven, allowed one run and seven hits in 7 strong innings.

Kyle Farnsworth and Mariano Rivera took the pressure off of their injured bullpen by shutting down the Blue Jays the rest of the way.

"It was a masterpiece," said Yankees manager Joe Torre. "He's as good as we've seen him early in the year."

Putting the controversy over whether HidekiMatsui crossed homeplate before Jorge Posada was tagged out in the fifth inning behind them; the Yankees are glad to be heading home after playing 11 of 14 on the road.
