So a pommy sheila is walking down the street with her friend when a bloke walking towards her waves his scarf for a brief moment OVER her head. The bloke was just coming back from a game of footy in which his team won. The scarf made NO contact with the woman and the reasonable response would be to laugh it off and keep walking. Only this is not what this sheila decided to do. Instead she tried to grab his scarf. When she failed she turned around and grabbed the man's shoulder (he had by this time walked past her). She then PUNCHED him in the face. In response the man punched her once, breaking her jaw. All of the news reporting though presented this charlie as the victim. The sheila in question said she no longer felt safe walking around Melbourne. Even a wpc put up by VicPol claimed the woman was the victim of a "vile" crime and that females ought to be able to walk around in public without the fear of being attacked by men. Only it was one man, one punch and he was responding to her striking him in the face. If she walks around without hitting men then guess what, 99.9% of the time she will have absolutely nothing to worry about. If however you think you can just punch men in the face and not face any consequences then that figure of 99.9% comes down somewhat.
The take out from this incident should be don't punch people except in self defence or in defence of others. She however seemed to feel that as a woman she was entitled to punch a man in the face and that the man should just wear it and do nothing. Hmm. The reality is, if you choose to punch someone who is stronger than you then be prepared to deal with the consequences. Simple.
