No. It means the social media experiment is broken. Once we decided that it was okay to destroy or off-platform another person online, the clock started ticking.
The people in the actual world aren't fake. The real people who post online aren't fake. The self-anointed gate-keepers of these communities are enforcing rules based on ideology (political-correctness) and many people who once participated in these online communities are having to regroup and readjust.
Trump isn't gone. His supporters aren't gone. The false accusations made about him and his supporters sound silly considering he's now just a private citizen and wildly popular for those who voted for him.
But, since the arbiters of facebook and Youtube hold Trump and Trumpism in disdain, they make up reasons to off-platform his supporters and others.
Beyond Trump and the Trumpsters, lots of basic liberals---people who believe in free speech and free expression--have lost heart over these public forums.
Go to Reddit and post something centrist and see just how fast your comments get downvoted to oblivion.
Yup, Reddit HATES my free-spirited self.
What it's seemed to me is that once someone becomes intelligent enough to defend themselves the TreeHouse Club children start building more exclusive and controlled TreeHouses to keep the smart kids away.
I can understand trying to deter from maintaining the small flames fueling underlying/subliminal contempt for Gays and Ethnics but the censoring going on is being used more as a political weapon to shut-up opposing ideologies.
It took awhile for me to figure out what 'The Dark Web' was when i finally realized it was all parts of the web that were not either Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Reddit, Twitch, Discord or Instagram.
