The Way that can be walked is not the eternal Way.

The name that can be named is not the eternal name.

The nameless is the beginning of Heaven and Earth.

The named is the mother of all things.

Therefore:

Free from desire you see the mystery.

Full of desire you see the manifestations.

These two have the same origin but differ in name.

That is the secret,

The secret of secrets,

The gate to all mysteries.

Maybe the following helps illuminate the chapter of the Tao te Ching quoted in the OP:-

"In this model, the whole of reality emerges out of a primordial non-dual Ground or Source of All Things. This Wholeness of Reality is then split into two by the action of human awareness, which creates a dualism between the observer and the observed in its perception and experience. Out of this two-ness emerges the entire world of multiplicity, of separate things and events in space-time. And when we take this multiplicity too far, and create parts of the whole that are not really separate or separable (such as human races or religions) we create fragmentation, which leads to a crisis in perception and violence and division in the world"

(The above a direct quote, I thought of John Caputo, but I cannot trace it a the moment)

I just finished the untethered soul, it had a chapter on the Tao and the way.

It was my first exposure to it.

Well, out side of knowing it’s a book, I am a librarian I know lots of books and how to find them but that doesn’t mean I’ve read them. I’ve only recently been looking into non-western writings, teachings, philosophy.

There was this guy, John Dunne, who wrote a book "The Way Of All The Earth" about what he saw as a very common experience these days, of "passing over" into another thought world, culture, way of being. And then coming back, finding what then has changed,
now seen and understood differently.

I passed over into the "east" and never came back...
