Gaming
Simple browsing
Graphics editing/production
Engineering simulations ...?

Look for a laptop with a discreet gpu. Not embedded / included on CPU.
It'll be more $$ but better performance. My son's coursework in programming required discreet GPU.

In 2016 a Dell Inspiron laptop with 4gb NVidia GForce, 8gb RAM, 15" screen with 3 yr warranty (which we used) was about $1,000

2-1/2 years of on-campus use, the hinge on the screen broke.
repaired without issue.
