best live album

I could never figure out why no record of the 1984 Live Aid Concert was ever made. That would surely have figured in any "Best Live Album" listing had it been.



As it is, I would have to put the 1970 Woodstock album at the top of my list, followed by Nirvana's "MTV Unplugged in New York" from 1994.

Two of my first - and still high on the list:
Queen Live Killers
Eagles Double Live

"Back in the day", there seemed to be a period where any band worth its weight had to release a "Double Live"

Other notables:
Dire Straits - Live Alchemy (bought primarily for Private Investigation)
Sting - Bring on the Night

And a recent release:
Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind - King Crimson
3 CDs recorded live during a previous tour, produced without crowd noise and songs grouped to give it that "studio" feel.

Geldof persuaded many of the acts to play for free by telling them it was a one-off and wouldn't be recorded.
Then in 2004 he discovered that bootleg copies of the tv coverage were all over the internet and so he got the 4-disc DVD released, which is ten hours long. Some of the acts (eg Led Zep) refused permission to be included.
