I remember President Clinton's Senate Trial, which ended in acquittal.

Yes. There was a Senate Trial in that case, as there will most likely be in this one.

Acquittal isn't the same as Dismissal.

Similarly, being pardoned does not mean a person is innocent.

Jesus! I am having trouble posting for some reason, so I will have to get back to you guys. My last attempt at posting ended up looking like a train wreck.
I just thought that I would mention that.

Actually I have been saying for the better part of the last two years, here on TFS, that Trump won't get removed.

So you are a little behind the times on that prediction.

OK, sure, I am leaving my post alone and I am not retracting anything. And let it be known, that you heard it here first, summary dismissal.

Mitch wants to move to vote on aquittal.

Republicans want to have an actual vote on acquittal — to clear the President of the charges against him — and not simply rely on a 51-vote threshold procedural motion to dismiss the hotly-disputed case.

It's from one of those "Live Update" feeds, so a link will become failed before long.

Of course they're saying this quick resolution will rub Trump wrong. He wants to drag this out to try and wear down the public with his gas lighting and lies.

I say a bumper sticker campaign of "Abuse of Power is not a Crime" would do well.

Edit: I wonder if I can copyright that?

I can hardly wait until some jackass democrat is elected and starts acting like Trump, and all the republicans/conservatives will be like...

Oh s***... we f***ed up...

Of course if all the jackass democrat does is lie about consensual sex with another adult, the impeachment game will be on...

Trump is like Ross Perot's Reform Party, destroyed because they don't like anyone getting in on their game. Two parties under god(s), invisibly indivisible, the illusion of liberty and justice for all. The only reason Trump was put in office is he's supposed to make the non Neo Con (Tea Party) element of the Republican party look like crap. Problem is he didn't go along with the planned war against Iran. Now certain elements are unhappy. It sounds like he did something illegal, the Senate will decide. But if he DID do something illegal the CIA knew about it the whole time.
If Trump is impeached Pence will become the President.

The only reason Trump was put in office is...

>>> Supreme Court Justices <<<

The GOP will do anything to keep Trump in office until RBG dies...

The GOP's hope is to also replace Breyer.

Keeping in mind that Thomas (he's not looking so great lately) might have to be replaced also.

The GOP is on the verge of securing a 6 to 3 majority in the Supreme Court.

The GOP also knows that if a Democrat comes into office in 2020 it could easily last 8 years (and if Biden picks a good VP... AND the economy holds... mostly... that could be 12 years)... during which time the Supreme Court balance could shift back to the "liberal" side.

The pretense that the GOP is backing Trump for any other reason than to secure a solid long term Conservative Supreme Court is naive.

Everything else is shiny little bits and bobbles in the sand.

That, Chaski, is one of the most intelligent points I've seen on here. I cannot for the life of me fathom why we continue appointing Supreme Court Justices according to their political alignment. These posts should be apolitical. They are supposed to interpret the law. That interpretation should be based on logical argument with the intent of bettering our nation and democracy.

Yup. All this support of trump boils down to many on the right holding out for more appointments to the courts in their “favor”.

For many it’s the reason they did vote for trump and will do so in 2020 no matter what.

It’s a game of the ends justify the means and they are really invested in their “ends”

I’m not sure the arguments are even that “logical” anymore. They are more emotional and moralistic. It’s very much a matter of opinion on what is “right” with very little middle ground for compromise. Which is a different kind of scary in politics.

Consensual sex in the oval office is not a crime. So why lie about it?

Unless the lie is on the bragging side.. "I had the Best Sex in the oval office. Better than any other president in history! Even better than Abraham Lincoln!"

We'll probably never know, but here is my bet:

Embarrassment.

When the story started to break, Hillary told Bill you've embarrassed me again! Make this go away... NOW!

So Bill followed his wife's orders.

PS
Republicans and Conservatives are obsessed with what people do with their own genitalia. Republicans and Conservatives apparently are sexually frustrated.

I’m not so worried about Trump refusing to leave the office (he would just be escorted out if that were the case), but what “scorched earth” actions he would take between November and inauguration while still in office as the lame duck.
