So... "Goddammit".

Goddammit.... gosh darn it.... God curse this thing...

Doesn't seem like "taking the name of the Lord thy God in vain"... nor taking the "name" of the lord in vain...

Seems more like a request.

Dear God, this thing hurt me... hurt my feelings... my emotions... it thwarted my efforts to do good work... please punish it... please damn it for hurting & frustrating me....

gosh darn Satan... get thee behind me Satan...

I truly doubt that an all powerful perfect being would misunderstand the meaning... the request... and somehow be so petty as to be offended...

Of all of Trump's sins, he should get a pass on this one.

this topic with goddammit - remind me - this joke about this cardinal and this nun.

this cardinal is playing golf on a golf course, and his assistance, his nun Friday is there for his support. the cardinal really sucks at golf.

every time, the cardinal missed the ball or shoot it far away he is aiming. he said loudly, " godammit!, godammit! " the nun Friday tell him, " god will strike dead, if you use his name in vain, he will strike down with lightning! "

they finally reach 18th hole, and now, the old cardinal miss 40th swing and connecting the golf ball. he just pick up the ball through at the hole, and still miss the hole. then he break his golf club in half, and said " goddamit! " another 20 times screaming.

the nun Friday forty times said to the cardinal, " god will strike down , you keep using his name in vain. and the forty times, the cardinal said the nun Friday, " would the hell shut up, you old b****! "

all sudden, in the sky, dark clouds and thunders will exploding in the sky. all sudden, one of the biggest lighting, you ever see come out of the sky, and strike down the old nun.

the cardinal was in shock, looking at his best friend dead as a door knob. all sudden, the sky starting to clear up, god put his head out the sky. he seen what he done, and he got very angry, then he said:

GODAMITT, I MISS !!

Well, that's two (2) of the Ten Commandments...

And we can pretty much put the deaths of many Kurds on Trumps shoulders as well (being a stable genius there is no argument that his decision to allow Turkey to slaughter Kurds was accidental)... so that makes it three (3) of the Ten...

And he cheated on all three of his wives... so that makes four (4) of the Ten...

Hmmm.... vain... vanity.... excessive pride in or admiration of one's own appearance or achievements.

And "pride", though not listed in the Ten Commandments (it was probably one of the ones on the tablet that Moses dropped and broke ), is one of the seven deadly sins.

Trump, who is proud and brags that he has done things that he has not actually done and brags that he is "GREATEST" of essentially everything, exudes pride like a fountain of diarrhea.

He's so vain, he probably thinks this thread is about him.

It would so much fun if Trump turned up on TFS as a new member.

Now Billy, you know your mother and I have told you time and time again that it's a sin to use profanity. And it's a sin to use God's name in vain.

It wasn't my fault Dad. That boy called my mother a bad name.

Then you called God a bad name.

You must be punished son. Did you know someone has already paid the penalty for the sin you've committed?

No! Who Dad?

Jesus did son. When he was tortured and hung on the cross, he was there paying your sin debt.

But why did he do that for me?

Because he loves you son.

(Apologies for Aunt Bea and Keys for Kids Ministries. This is the best I can quote from memory. It's been about 40 years since I listened to the story)

I'll find it some time and repost here.

Taking the Lord's name in vain is grave but it is forgivable.

This is the price we pay for electing leaders without piety. All things considered, Trump is still an overall better option than Pierre Delecto Romney.

Billy: So, it is totally cool that I call god a bad name, because he killed Jesus for my sins... in fact, that means I can get married multiple times (like say... three times) and cheat on each of my wives... and commit other sines because Jesus already paid my sin debt.

Dad: Yes Billy that is exactly what means. So get out there and commit as many sins as you possibly can... one day you might even get to be president of the USA and all the good little Republicans will worship as if you are god.

The only way Trump is going to join TFS is if Q does first.

"Then you called God a bad name."

"Goddamnit" Is NOT calling god a bad name

It is asking god to damn something.
Like when Pontius Pilate handed down his sentence, Jesus may have mumbled "Goddamnit" ... but there is debate on whether he is directing it at Pilate, the sentence, or the cross ...

Never have I ever heard a person say "godamit" and thought to myself: "oh look, a pious person is asking God to curse that thing!" I would say that there is an inverse correlation in the health of a person's prayer life and his utterance of "godamit."

Most always that phrase is used as a curse word added to emphasize or underscore the severity or level of emotion/hurt/discomfort/displeasure blah blah.
