What are the superstitious meanings behind ears burning/ringing and should they be taken seriously?

Are there superstitious meanings behind ears burning or ringing? The left ear? The Right Ear? Should they be taken seriously, or do they make people paranoid?

I think the old wives tale is ringing in the ears means someone is talking about you.

that could be correct, or, pat's phone is ringing a lot, he should answer it now. with pat's luck, it will be a wrong number.

The saying goes Pat,If your ears are burning,someone is talking about you.
The ringing ears ??? ,one would guess you've been listening to you music through head phones far to loud and you've started to kill the little tiny hairs that grow right inside your ears and you now are suffering from Tinitus.

IF that's the case ,I suggest you get used to listening to it,Oh , and it's not your ears that are hearing it,it's you brain...........Sorry.
