So Biden has now officially thrown his hat in.

He obviously has a better chance than anybody of reining in moderates and independents disgusted with Trump, but the question is whether or not he can reign in enough delegates for a majority in the primary, with over 60% of DNC voters polling for more progressive candidates.

I was hoping he would stay out of it.

He and Bernie will split the Democrat party (again).

If Joe gets the nod, Bernie will cross his arms over his chest and start sulking as he did in 2016. And, a significant number of his followers will sit it out all the while b****ing about being ripped off again.

If Bernie wins, a sizable chunk of the moderate/centrist Democrats & Independents will sit it out.

Ether way Trump wins in 2020... he might even win the popular vote this time.

If I was in charge of the Democrat party I would focus on trying to win the Senate and keeping control of the H.R.... and maybe winning a few governorships.

IMO: The presidential game is all but over.

I might now go into a 2020 Presidential campaign black out.

(yes, this get's brought up every election)

Our Primary system sucks.
If your state doesn't have a primary until later in the game, it's often all but over by then.

(and then we can move on to b****ing about the electoral college)

Superdelegates will not be a factor this time. That is what Bernie supporters were sulking over. So if Biden gets the majority, it will be recognized that is what the voters truly wanted and they cannot deny that.

Remember, too, that many of the newer independents are defectors from the Trump Party. So while they may not vote for the DNC candidate, they will be former Trump voters who will not vote for Donald either.

As far as the Senate, it will be tough to get people who vote one way on the Presidential election to vote another way on the Senate. I believe the same-party synchronization between the President and the Senate votes on ballots was at 87% the last election, highest it’s ever been. The only way the DNC will win back the Senate will be to get enough people to vote period.

I hope you are not going to sit this one out. If so, you are enabling Trump and McConnell.

Which could be a tough row to hoe with the GOPers continuing to tighten laws that increase voter suppression.

Yeah, it will be tough. We need at least 3 GOP seats to win back control. 2 have a good chance, but the rest are in deep red states.

So if Biden gets the majority, it will be recognized that is what the voters truly wanted and they cannot deny that.

I know some Bernie fans, granted not a statistically valid sampling, who all believe that the proverbial fix is in and that Biden will get the nod... they are at best pessimistically hopeful that they are wrong.

As to Bernie... he never truly backed Hillary's win, and the numbers put her in the lead regardless of the Super Delegates. Bernie acted like a old slighted curmudgeon before and there is not reason to think he would do otherwise this time.

Regardless, if Bernie loses, I believe many of his followers will stay home in big enough numbers for Biden to lose. Biden might win the popular vote, but not the EC.

If Bernie wins, I don't think he will bring any moderate Republicans or Conservatives. Independents might be a more or less split. In addition, a Bernie win might actually motivate moderate Democrats to not vote for a presidential candidate... the "I don't like Trump, but just can't bring myself to vote for a fringe socialist who has never actually been a Democrat" position. A Bernie win would definitely motivate moderate Republicans & Conservatives to vote against him; i.e. for Trump.

>>> Americans just don't like "socialism", it is a dirty word. <<<

(Side note: Yes, it is true the most Americans don't even know what the word means, and many don't even disagree with socialist ideals. But they hate the word, which is enough for most Americans. Catch words and phrases matter to Americans more that facts.)

In addition, Trump presently has the economy going for him, and if it tanks that won't happen fast enough for him to be damaged.

At best Bernie would win the popular vote and lose the EC... at best.

Just my opinion.

But I like your optimism... hopefully you are right.

I’d like to make a case for Beto O’Rourke as a third alternative to the top two here. I even predicted he will get the nomination, and, for now, still stand by that.

This is for several reasons:

1. He has a track record of being a moderate, like Biden, so he can still win the independents like him.

2. However, he does not represent the establishment, unlike Biden, and that was largely the problem with Clinton and why disenfranchised voters hated her.

3. He is pretty much a blank page right now in terms of policy ideas, which is a GOOD thing, because progressives can still feel that they have a say with him down the road if he becomes the front runner.

4. His down to earth charisma is unmatched. He lost Texas by a few points. Texas. People will like him. And this is important today, in the age where presentations and sound bytes play a huge role. It may be unfortunate, but it is what it is. The messenger is just as important as the message itself.

5. He represents our younger generations compared to the establishment, Biden, Trump, Sanders, Clinton, McConnell, etc. While he isn’t as young as Buttigieg or AOC, he isn’t a baby boomer either. Plus his punk rock background projects and adheres a youthfulness as well.

I think socialism may finally turn a page in American’s minds because it is being brought into the dialogue and forefront much earlier this time. In 1992 and 2008, the other two times it was in recent history, it was in backlash to the DNC victories.

That's why I'm NOT against bringing up some extreme topics and ideas:
tunnels to Hawaii, no cows, free college, stucco skyscrapers...

Because it will at least (hopefully) bring out the dialogue and maybe some realistic goals can be set.

I would like to take the time to here note that I am soooooooooooo happy that there are no windmills around here.

For the last week the wind has been blowing through our valley so hard that, if there were windmills near by, I am certain that the magnitude of cancer causing agents would surely have turned me into the evil version of the Hulk.
