Blimey... this old thread getting bumped.
In all honesty, I'd hate to think that anybody uprooted themselves and moved away because a gay couple moved in.
I have to say that, in the twelve years I've lived with Amanda here in Kernow, we've only had one instance of "neighbour trouble" and even then, as unpleasant as it was, it was more a case of misplaced teenager angst lashing out at the nearest and most obvious target in the neighbourhood rather than outright homophobia.
When we lived in Falmouth, a neighbour's daughter spray-painted the word "Lezza" across the bonnet (hood) of my car. It didn't take long to find out who the perpetrator was and we managed to deal with it without recourse to calling the police and having her arrested for criminal damage. Actually, once we talked with her mother and found out what her underlying problem was, we were more sympathetic than angry.
I ended up helping to mentor her through her GCSE Science subjects at school and now she's all grown up, went to university and graduated as a midwife. She works up country now but we still keep in touch.
People do things for all sorts of reasons.... and not always the obvious ones. The genuine homophobes, I believe, are probably fewer and farther between than we think.
I still can't help having a little chuckle when I read the OP to this thread though. That really was somebody getting their come-uppance.
Thanks for bumping it Twilight. It made me smile.
I for one would be happy that anyone who moved away because of a gay couple got further away from me & my family as well!
