Cymru were impressive in defeating the pumas on the road whilst the Scots cruised past Canada.

England have suffered their sixth successive defeat after going down 23-12 to the boks. The poms lead 12-0 at one point. The South Africans lead the series 2-0.

Another underwhelming performance by the wallabies but all credit to Argentina who played with great passion.

Exactly how Cheika has managed to keep his job is a mystery.

Across the ditch the boks secured their first victory in New Zealand since 2009 with a 36-34 win over the All Blacks.

NZ went into the match having won 11 of their last 12 matches against the Springboks and the last six successive meetings were by an average margin of 23 points .

That's ok.... we can handle losing to WALES. They're decent blokes and the rumours have it that Warren Gatland is considering taking the England job when he quits Wales after the World Cup. I think that would be a good move on England's part.

OK, so Wales won. Fair play on them. They had a better second half. That's what local rivalries are all about. This year they win, next year we win. The winner has bragging rights. It's all good.

Talking of local rivalries.....

Your lot have to play New Zealand twice this summer (your winter). Good luck with that.

Joke seen on a Kiwi rugby site:

A thief has broken into the Australian Rugby Union's trophy room and stolen everything in it. Police are looking for a man carrying a roll of green and yellow carpet.

Thank goodness the Bledisloe Cup's in safe hands, eh..?

Just like the Cook Cup

The All Blacks have won nearly 81% of their matches against the poms, whilst they have won 69% of their matches against us.

Head to head against the poms we lead 25 to 24. That said, the current Wallaby side is our worst since the 1970's and we will simply be making up the numbers in Japan. Australian rugby (union) is a complete basket case on and off the field with the ARU deep in debt. Meanwhile the ARL and NRL are going from strength to strength. Here it should be noted that when it comes to rugby, union runs a VERY distant second to league. In league we lead the kiwis 100-32. Against the poms we have only lost twice in 17 matches. There have been 15 League World Cups. We have won 11 of them (England havent won any and the Kiwis just 1).

We regularly thump the kiwis in just about every sport we play against them, so it's nice for our little cousins across the ditch to have at least one sport they can beat us at.

In the upcoming RWC only group C looks really open re the top 2. England will top the group but France is no certainty with Argentina a real threat. That said Japan are not without a chance in group A.

Likely quarter finals

ENGLAND v Australia (probably the weakest of the quarter finalists)
NZ v ALBA (Japan some chance of qualifying)
CYMRU v France (Argentina a big threat to France)
Eire v RSA (The pick of the quarter finals)

Personally I think either NZ or the poms will win the cup (though I would love to be wrong).

Unfortunately the group matches will be played during the AFL and NRL finals series so they will struggle to get much coverage. Mind you, outside of NSW and QLD union struggles to get any coverage anyway.

Rugby....... Bloody hell.

England cruising toward a half time lead at 31-0 against the Scots. Scoring tries for jolly. No bother. Then something odd happened. The Scots scored a charge-down try against all the run of play. Still... half time at 31-7. Nothing to worry about.

Or so we thought.

Scotland came out for the second half like caged tigers. What a magnificent display of spirit and refusal to accept defeat...!! They just kept on coming at England and with just two minutes left, went 38-31 ahead..!! Five second half tries and three conversions to zip. Unbelievable.

England managed to scramble a stoppage time try and scored the conversion with the final kick of the game to get a draw. 38-38. Phew...!!

Wonderful entertainment... both teams going for it.... a shared Calcutta Cup and England's record of not losing to Scotland at Twickenham in my lifetime (since 1983) preserved. But only by the skin of our teeth.

Quite magnificent rugby. It might give defence coaches nightmares, but if every game was like this stadiums would be bursting at the seams every week.

Wales are worthy 6N Grand Slam champions. They overcome a lacklustre Ireland at the Principality. Quite an insipid match but the Welsh don't care. Overall, they were the best team in the tournament and Alun Wyn Jones captained the team superbly. Congratulations Wales.

Damn...... I LOVE rugby.
