Yah Gilbert is really just a supporting actor, i don't see her being able to carry the lead role her self. Kill Barr off in the show and get john and laurie together. Laurie is a great actress and could easily carry the lead role. Or show it with John trying to keep the family going after the death of his wife. I think that would resonate well with views
the clearest break that sarah's show is start over john and laurie as the parents, sarah as the oppositive role than in Roseanne.
as you are saying above, there is only comedy show, I can think of that this idea was successfully for few years before it was cancelled.
