No:

Yes:
The term comes from the 1930s play "Gas Light" and the 1940s Hollywood movie version (Gaslight) in which a manipulative husband tries to unmoor his wife, played by Ingrid Bergman, by tampering with her perception of reality. He dims the gaslights and then pretends it's only she who thinks they are flickering as the rooms grow darker.
That's only the beginning. He uses a variety of truth-blurring techniques. His goal is to exert power and control by creating doubts about what is real and what isn't, distracting her as he attempts to steal precious jewels.
Mental health professionals have made much of the practice, said to be a favorite of narcissists and abusive spouses. But more recently the tactical tampering with the truth has become a preferred method of strongmen around the world. Gaslighting by other means was always a common feature of dictatorships, but it has found new vogue as a more subtle form of domestic political control even in countries with varying degrees of democracy.

I've mentioned before, during the campaign that he just throws so much s*** out there that 1) you don't know where to begin and 2) you can't keep up.

Not sure if he's just crazy, or crazy like a fox.

Its OK that he is a BS artist and that his campaign was a load of lies mixed with ridiculous hyperboli.

He was just connecting with how we all feel... that live is surreal and nonsensical.

He's just everywhere. All the time. His fowl ignorant loud mouthed egotistical lying hypocritical fat face is everywhere.

One more outrageous thing than the last.

I am so tired of him and it's not even Jan 20th.

I want to boycott him.

I'm thinking a coma for 4 years might be easier to handle than sitting through his gaslight presidency.

Gaslighting would be the covert term - when you don't want your victim to know.

Alternative Facts would be the overt term - when you're quite blatant about it.

I'm expecting to hear the alternative facts about gas lighting soon enough from the Trumpets.

Alternate facts

...??

I still see the quote and references to "Alternative" facts ... if that's the point you're trying to make.

Of course your phrase could be the Alternate Phrase

To alternate is to take turns; an alternative is an option.

Yes...Ms. Conway's choice was "alternative".

Politically we seem to be in an age of both....sort of.

Yes, the administration can choose which "facts" to communicate, and we can choose which "facts" to believe.

Choosing facts to support one's beliefs is not in and of itself bad, though it is not especially objective so can be "dangerous".

I find it a bit concerning that so many people believe "alternative facts" AND when confronted with information that disproves these "alternative facts" don't care.

This last year has seen some strange (to me) trends).

> The phenomena of not caring that Trump lied because "we" like the point that he was making.

Or

> "We" like what he said, even if was false or bigoted or racist or just crazy, because he was being "honest".
