Equality Between Men and Women in Islam
Islam establishes the principle of equality between men and women in all aspects of life that they are equal in, because both of them are equally human. It does however distinguishes between them in some areas, taking into consideration the natural differences between them and the special qualities that each of them has.

Equality between men and women in Islam is derived from the following considerations:
1. Equality in their human origins: Islam conclusively establishes that all human beings have a common origin. This fact is mentioned in many verses of the Qur??n:
- O Mankind, fear your Lord who created you from a single soul and created from it its mate and brought forth from the two of them many men and women.

- O Mankind, verily we created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes so you may know one another. Verily the most honorable of you with Allah are the most righteous.
2. Equality in their common destiny:

Islam also establishes that all of mankind is going to return to Allah who created them, and everyone ? male and female ? is going to be recompensed for his or her worldly deeds. They will receive well if they did good and they will be requited with evil if they did evil. Allah says:
- And every one of you will come to Him alone on the Day of Resurrection.

- A human being will have nothing except for what he does. And his deeds will be seen. Then he will be recompensed fully.

- So their Lord accepted of them their supplication and answered them: ?I will never allow the work of any of you to be lost, male or female. You are from each other.

- Whoever works righteousness as a believer, whether male or female, we will truly give a good life and We shall pay them a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do.

When you see abuse of women in Islam, I think that's more to do with the culture of a particular area than the religion itself. There are Muslim countries out there who do not treat women like dirt the way the Saudis and Iranians do.

*highfive*

I love the contradictory parts of the Koran.... Some parts say that only men have souls but other say families enter paradise together. I guess the wives will just love the husbands having the houris to serve him....

But no, of course theres eqaulity. Just keep telling yourself that.

Hmmm.... Well generally? Ok so to be honest i don't know passage names, nor have i read more than 2/3rds of the Koran, but very few Islamic societies promote working women or education. I'm thinking here Yemen for sure, Saudi Arabia, funnily enough Iran is one of the more liberal Islamic republics in terms of female equality.

The first sentence says it all. It implies that there are areas where equality doesn't apply, without any specifications whatsoever. Therefore equality is nullified, presumably.

Here's the reason I ask the question:

No matter what "area" you come up with where "equality doesn't apply," I can find you a woman who handily exceeds the average man's ability or characteristic in that area.

Higher math? It's easy to find a woman whose accomplishments and ability greatly exceed that of the average male.

Basketball? It's easy to find a woman whose accomplishments and ability greatly exceed that of the average male.

Speed? It's easy to find a woman whose ability greatly exceeds that of the average male.

It's all about individuals. It's not fair to bar a highly-able woman from something and allow a lesser-able man just because of the two individuals' respective sex.

Yes, on average, a man will be stronger and faster, for example. But that completely ignores the ability of individual women who may be exceptionally strong or fast.

Ultimately, sexism is wholly indefensible, and any religion that preaches institutional sexism is a religion that needs to be lost to history.

We can find as many instances of equality as we want. Logic and reason aren't going to prevail against any 'Holy Book' you care to name if the adherents of a religion are happy with the status quo.

From what i've seen especially in the Middle East, Islamic women are about half a step above a slave, they can't leave the house without being accompanied by a male relative!!
Now isn't that a load of horses***!!!

Please, name one country which treats women equally with men.
It is all in the Koran and hadiths. Women are, definitely, inferior to men.
Just think of one Islamic rule; men are allowed to marry four women at the same time. Can divorce his wife just by saying 'you are divorced'. Women have no such rights.
