I was hoping for Tom Mulcair, but anyone other than Stephen Harper is what I was hoping for. And the best part is he's resigned as the leader of Conservative Party, so we don't have to worry about him running again later on.

A lot of people are worried about Justin because they say he's too 'young and inexperienced,' but the dude's 43! That's not young! Sure, he was 33 when he got into politics, but that's still not young. I know by comparison the campaigning/election process for Canada doesn't seem as long and extravagant as the American ones, ...probably because our politicians are too responsible to throw away billions of dollars to buy votes and drag the process along over the course of a year and a half but still, it's no less important. And while the NDP didn't do nearly as well as they should've, they still did extremely well leading up to the election, making many take note that the 'two party system' doesn't always have to apply.

Still, the Liberals are in power and while not all of the seats have been declared, they still have a majority government with 177 seats of the required 170 for majority in the House of Commons.

The following stats are current as of 10:20pm PST. Not all seats have been claimed.

Liberal: 177 (52%)

Conservative: 96 (28%)

NDP: 32 (9%)

Bloc Quebecois: 9 (3%)

Green: 1 (0%)

Well, whenever I've heard any coverage about the Canadian Election in American news or shows, they usually speak pretty condescendingly about our electoral process.

Examples: "Only 72 days of campaigning? That's adorable..."

"Canadians wish they had the electoral process we did."

And so on and so forth...

John Oliver sums up the Canadian election pretty well in 15 minutes.

Because we don't elect the party leaders directly and instead we elect our local representatives, it makes the process that more important, especially when politicians like Jerry Bance and Alex Johnson screw up in some way that jeopardizes their riding for their particular party.

By comparison, Americans vote for their local and state representatives, plus the President. But the presidential votes tend to overshadow the local/state votes in terms of media coverage unless the particular candidates have a lot of backers and/or money, which shouldn't have to be the case at all because the local/state elections by far are what tend to affect your community and state. So Canadians have a more 'indirect' voting process, in a sense.

Wow... apparently Richard Nixon predicted Justin Trudeau becoming Prime Minister.
