Some of the best recipes are created that way, by accident.
I one found a use for collapsed sponges, that can happen to the best of us, I simply excised the fallen centre, filled it with quartered strawberries, back-filled that with nearly set strawb' jelly then topped with slathers of whipped cream, Voilà, Strawberry Chalice!
After I took out the first slice I'd slice up the entire thing, once it appeared on someones table I'd be swamped with orders, and I never had leftovers! We once lived above a restaurant and my eldest was with me in the kitchen and was scoffing chocolate mousse, he was only 6 at the time. Being a kid he tipped in some OJ, and promptly yelled.."Hey Dad, it's Jaffa Jelly"! So that too went on the menu, and was extremely popular, and I still add OJ to choccy sauce regularly nowadays, my friends and family seem addicted to it for some reason!
