See, I unwittedly applied motor oil in my gas tank, thinking it was some concoction to help the gasoline last longer. Immediately, the 2000 Acura TL seemed a little weird, but after I put in some premium gas, my car seemed okay. I told this story to a mechanic, and he is worried about my car's fate. However, I can still drive it. What should I do? Pay for "repairs"? Educate myself about cars and try to fix it myself? Or should I keeping putting in gas?

Ok Carel you have three options that you could option with and that is that #1 you can drain your gas tank of all contents and tank cleaned which will set you back a few hundred dollars for labor cost involved , or #2 you can buy some gas additives such as J&B gas additive to break down the oil residue that's mixed with the gas , or you could do nothing and to let the oil and gas to be consumed , but just keep in mind that you will notice an blue smoke as you run your vehicle and the most harm that can be done is just fouling of the plugs and causing your computer to go into limp mode which will make your vehicle to have poor gas milage , but other than that you'll be fine until you burn off your oil in your tank , hope that this helps , If you want to educate yourself in autorepair just checkout u-tube and check for autorepair and you'll be informed in the know ......

Eh, just don't worry about it. Your car will blow some smoke but it shouldn't be a big deal assuming it doesn't clog up the fuel injectors.

Looks like Bret covered that. On another note, I wouldn't recommend any fuel additives. None of them will make you get better gas mileage, that's for sure. Modern gasoline has plenty of detergents and cleansers in there already.

One time last year I was mowing the lawn and inadvertently put too much oil in the oil intake and it smoked blue smoke while I was cutting the grass. No one died.
