Do not argue with the announcers. They are always right don't you know. I've seen our goaltender decide to have a sip of water while the other team was attacking and they scored. He was thirsty, therefore allowed that puck to go in.

That would be a case when it was allowed.

No goaltender ever 'allows' and goal on himself.

Well...if they were sipping water instead of tending their goal, either they allowed the goal or they weren't a goaltender.

My comment about him sipping water was my failed attempt at bland sarcasm.

Totally understandable. It's not like they just stood there and didn't try, right?

Exactly. The word allowed by commentators is enough to make me go in a Bob Costas induced rage!

Well, that's the problem then if he's drinking water and not Gatorade during the game. He is not replenishing his electrolytes so he's all weak and dizzy so standing there allowing goals.

Indeed, baseball was the first thing that came to mind. The only sport I can think of where you'll hear the commentators say something as absurd as "This will be the fourth time he's struck out in the 5th inning against a left handed pitcher with runners on 1st and 3rd with two outs at Wrigley field."

Dang.

Yeah, sportscasters and writers are always analyzing that type of thing. Managers are even worse now, thanks to Tony LaRussa.

Football is just as bad, but the analytical statistics are so complex that it is primarily left to the coaching staff to deal with it, as the media doesn't think the viewer would be as interested.

Back to the OP, is Canada doing ok with those stats?

Well, it's better than drinking liquor isn't it?

Indeed! Do you think there would be more injuries? Or less?
