I need tips on how to draw your OWN characters. I can draw other people, like South Park people (show on Comedy Central), or Mario, or Sonic the Hedgehog, etc.

NOW, I want to make my own people. Make storylines with them. I'm making a new animated show on youtube, and if I want to do this, I need ideas/tips on exactly HOW to make your own character... Why? Imitating characters are hard, and I want to make my own... Help me out, again guys!
