Does anybody have any sites they like to use to learn about programming? I have made a few very small websites, never really had any teaching in the programming field. I learned what I know from bits and pieces around the web, but was wondering if there was a good (free) spot that anybody here would recommend?

Like I said, I know a little bit, but I'm just trying to learn as much about it as I can.

Thanks.

Id suggest going to your local bookstore and checking the computing sections, they should have books on it there which cover most things.

Nomenclature note - if it's websites you want to build, HTML is not a programming language - it's a markup language.

Do a google search for HTML tutorial, there are dozens of them out there.

like someone said, a book is the best way to learn programming yourself. I've got a big book on java cost me ?41.99 but it includes all steps & even activities to complete. By the end of it you would be a half decent programmer up to degree standards (in java) - theres multiple other languages you could try. I reccomend VB. If you click with programming try out Java or C++

search google and you can find anything you want. Programming can be anything from websites to software. What kind of programming are you looking at?

I would recommend daniweb.com and dreamincode.net, and possibly codecall.net. I use those sites quite frequently when I need help with a program.

I've given up on bookstores for technical topics like programming. Amazon.com will have WAY more selection, better prices, and often offer free shipping (at least in Canada and USA). If you really want to learn a particular programming language well, a good book on the topic is invaluable in my opinion.

there are millions of things to learn, but if you want to learn on the web, forget it. its too confusing, and it will force you into a corner where you will have to pay money anyways. trust me, i know. c sharp is almost immpossible to learn via the web. along with many other languages. the point is, either buy a book, look at what is on microsofts website, (very limited.) or just wait for a good post.
