alchemy

i wrote a song a while back and the point of it was this: all science stems from alchemy and other pagan practices. it all began with herbal remedies, and then we isolated specific things in those remedies that helped and we called them chemical compounds which is Chemistry. then we found chemical compounds in ourself so we found biology, then we isolated it in our minds in order to see chemical imbalances that caused social problems which invented psychology and sociology.

now, if you make music with a beat that effects the biorythm, then youve touched biology, if your message is about society and there minds youve effected sociology, and if you use hatred youre touching back on chemical remedies as in vinegar to stomach acid. so music is therefore alchemy of the soul.

Umm alchemy started out as the search for the "philosopher's stone". Every alchemy book contained a recipe for it and none of them worked. Whoever finally did discover a way to turn lead to gold or to live forever would have been instantly rich. Alchemists tended to be curious folks who looked into the properties of materials and even began to look to the stars for answers.

So while science did all spring from alchemy, it didn't exactly do it in the way you suggest. Ancient and medaevil medicine was pretty much herbal and from there people had to distinguish what worked and what didn't. This is how modern medicine really started coming about. It was looking at the things that worked, like feverfew and willow bark, and trying to find out why they worked that led to paracetemol (acetominophen) and aspirin but this type of research also led to the isolation of cocaine and the (accidental) synthesis of amphetamine, methamphetamine and several of their nasty little friends.
