most of the best war movies are john wayne movies. no doubt the duke must make about 10 war movies in his career.

here are fifty war movies by how popular not mean they were best. how much movie viewers like seen to them.

most poopular war movies of all time

choice the best one of the war movies, this the best of these popular war movies of all time. interesting not all these movies were in combat or on the battlefield.

my choice is:

the great escape - which is the best war prisoner escape movies of all time - james garner and all star cast not only escape from their war prison concertation camp. try to escape through germany to their freedom.

interesting that most of these popular war movies were made in 50's and 70's, not make a lot of money at the box office.

"300 " is a brilliant masterpiece - that is 50 on the list - how the brilliant computer animation backdrop with hardly story plot to it.

one of the best cinmax movie moment of all time - the main character has one shot kill the emeny's chief on top of pyramid.

the hero is about to be kill with a spear in his hand, take his last strength and throw as hard as he can the spear at the chief. watching the lost moment of his life, as the spear just scratch the chief's cheek.

one of the most brilliant movie scene, I have seen in all time.

It should be noted that in REAL life ALL US POWs were transferred from Stalag Luft III months BEFORE the great escape.

probably the movie production of ' the great escape ' was too cheap to paid usa pow's to be extras.

A total of 76 men escaped with all bar three being recaptured. Of the 73 to be recaptured 50 were executed (in small groups. The 50 men who were murdered included - 22 Britons, six Canadians, six Poles, four Australians, three South Africans, two Norwegians, two New Zealanders, and a man each from Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, and Lithuania.

All but seven were airmen of the RAF.

Das Boot is a really good film. Ditto Zulu and Zulu Dawn. Master and Commander is also very good. Three great films people outside of Australia are unlikely to have seen are Breaker Morant (The 2nd Anglo-Boer War), Gallipoli (WW1) and The Odd Angry Shot (Vietnam). Would also throw in Beneath Hill 60 (WW1), The Lighthorsemen (WW1) and Kokoda (WW2).

The first half of Full Metal Jacket is very good. Wasn't very impressed with the 2nd half.

I felt the same way, when I saw it. I thought it was good, but parts, it was ok. I never though it was a great movie.

Waterloo is also very good. It makes use of 17,000 professional soldiers from the Soviet Union, and it shows.

The Calvary charge must have been something to see. When I finish my time machine I think I will go there.

Waterloo does a really good job at recreating the charge of the Scot's Greys

At one point it's like the famous painting "Scotland Forever" has come to life.

Lawrence Of Arabia.

Typically ranked as one of the top 10 movies of all time. I'd put this one at the top.

Of course there are other movies that were probably "better" at showing the battles, tactics, strategy, etc., You have already meantion a number of these is your other posts.👍🏻

I always liked the Battle of Britain.
