I'm not sure how to communicate what my mind is feeling right now . . . but it's a mixture between a laugh and a look of confusion.

That's right, you heard me - my brain can feel looks.

It's commonly referred to as a justification given for slavery.

I've never heard it called the "Magnolia myth" though, even though I've read pretty extensively about the history of slavery in the US.

Apparently Southern "intellectuals" in the years preceeding the civil war began writing letters and articles and distributing leaflets and the like that listed reasons slavery was a good thing. As I understand it, that's where this came from.

Maybe that's why there's so little to find on the internet.

I guess that title isn't used commonly.

Just do a search on "justifications for slavery" instead

uh.....

I guess if they were under super bad conditions where they came from, and they ended up having one of the good owners whom didn't beleive in violence and made friends with them instead, then it sounds ok. but those few were usually the ones who signed the papers to set them free once they worked off their price...

nonetheless, slavery is a horrible concept in that there is no freedom, and almost all owners will treat them as if they're some sort of object, even the ones to bring them is as friends can't match freedom. not being a slave is far better...
