There was a news report that the government are considering introducing a system in the Courts to allow men who apologise for domestic violence to get off with councelling.

What sort of aweful bloody message are they sending out.

There were 7 women in Northern Ireland MURDERED by their husbands. Can these murderers get away with councelling by apologising.

Fecking plain crazy.

The justice system is a mess, men that beat up their own wives should be punished heavily, cause if you let them off theyll do it again.
There is no such thing as justice these days, its gone

I was listening to something about this yesturday.

Yes the counselling may helpthem, but I think it should be done along side custodial punishments, not in replace of. I think this goes for women who beat their partners too not just men.

Its appauling to treat a person who should be safe with you and be able to trust you like this. The victims get so trapped by the abusers and sometimes, as you have said, never find a way out of the relationship.

The men are commiting crimes and need to have a serious reprocution for it. In a relationship there is no need and no excuse for using violence against the other person, or for abusing them in other ways, such and mental and emotional abuse. I do think that people who do these things do need help, but they still need to be properly punished for their actions.

Our police (the Met) are really targetting this lately. Its a good thing because for so many years the police have turned a blind eye to the domestics.

And its not all men beating women, it happens the other way round too.

I work at a Doctors as some of you know and we have all been breifed recently on spotting signs of Domestic Violence and reporting it accordingly.

Even on the radio there is an ad played every half hour about Domestic Violence and how its ok to call 999 and report it.

So i gotta admit, in my corner this issue is being addressed very well at the moment.

Now I am not a violent person but I believe that if a man hits a woman then he should have his arm ripped off and be beaten over the head with the soggy end !

I dont think there is any excuse for violence, we are not in the dark ages.

Anyone who displays a violent outburst should be shown the consequences of thier actions. OK yeah sure they feel bad, but f*** a custodial sentence for GBH/ABH whatever the circumstances i think.

I;ve seen alot of the campaigne to. they have started advertising it to the men around here. Putting posters up in their toilets, with messages telling abusers they will be caught, and telling others to report people they know are doing it.

And I totally agree with you that it happens the other way around to.

I really like the fact that they are saying YES dial 999 if you suspect domestic violence.

How many times do we question dialling that number?

Better to be safe than sorry i say.

That's so stupid, the abuser apologizing repeatedly is already part of the cycle, guy beats woman, woman threatens to leave, guy cries and says he so sorry, he'll never do it again, woman takes guy back, and it all starts over again. This will only reinforce a woman's insecurity that she *should* forgive him and take him back *again*...sickening.

I don't think that would be the right message to send. If your are going to beat your wife, then you must be punished. The courage that some women needs is termendous to get away from an abusive husband. They need to have cofidance in the juditial system, that they will be protected.
