Y'know here in Australia you dont have to pay your fees up front. You can do what I'm doing and have the governemnt pay them for you and you pay back the government when you start earning a certain amount of money. So like, when I get my teaching degree I'll start paying back my fees at a certain amount per year based on what I earn that year. I think it's a pretty good system. It would be better free I suppose but its a better system than the U.S. I think, which seems to ensure that poor people stay poor (I think - I'm not from there but I think u have to pay up front year by year?).

In america you can get what is called a "Student Loan", this pays for everything, but when you graduate you have to pay it back. There are also ways to get government grants that will pay for your school and you do not have to pay them back, or last but not least, you can join the service for two years and then the service will pay for you college. No matter which way you go it is extremely expensive to get a college degree.

I think mine's gonna cost about $15,000 but I can take my time to pay that back and they dont charge interest.

well...in britain its NOT free!!!
its the third most expensive place in the world to study! above us is new zealand and sweden!!!
certain ppl, like myself, dont have pay for there tuition fee's but we do have pay for our accomodation, food, travel, books, etc.
There is a low interest student loan available but does have be paid back eventually! the government here is introducing new guidelines similar to that in australia apart from fact that on top of tuition fee's u can get expenses of up to a £3000 more depending on where study!
the NUS (national union of students) which i am a part of are totally against this proposal!
as u may have noticed by now, its something that really IS an issue for me! i have came from a working class family so i am very lucky but the level of student debt (up to £30,000!) is way to high! i will end up in debt even tho im very very good with my money!
guessin thats what get if ur a student!
a good degree costs money!

I have like $20,000+ in student loans right now.

A friend of mine has like $40,000 just for the Master's (so 2 years). (went to a good but expensive school).

See thats the thing isn't it? Modern societies laws say - "You need money to make money. If you dont have money you stay that way. And so do your kids and their kids....."
I think that sucks big time. Education is the key to freedom and success in life but usually the quality and depth of education depends on how much money a person, or persons parents have. Nothing like old money.
