Vote fraud allegations and complaints really took off in the 2000s. 2000 is the year George Bush Jr lost the popular vote but won the election with the electoral college.

This was the first time it happened since 1888.

It happened again in 2016 and quite possibly in 2004. We'll never know about 2004 because the recount of the vote in Florida was cancelled by the Supreme Court.

One concern among voters is the possibility of voting machines being hacked. Currently there is no federal requirement to get voting machines disconnected from the internet. Any software engineer from Microsoft could hack the ones that are still connected.

The districts that created Trumps win by slim margins in Minnesota and Wisconsin were connected to the internet.

HR 1 For the People Act is a bill Biden and the democrats have been trying to pass since his inauguration. The efforts have been sabotaged by party traitor Joe Manchin. The current congress is halfway over and midterms are coming up.

I would pose this question to Republican readers. If the 2020 election was rigged why won't the right support the voter's act meant to make it more difficult to fix the vote?

The right has made a case against the HR 1 For the People Act (see above link) based on the idea that people should have to show ID other than Voter ID cards at the polls.

The most important part of HR 1 is the requirement that voting machines be disconnected from the internet. The Left should propose a new bill and focus on that aspect only - leave the other parts out of it. That should make the elections more legitimate. It also should pass Congress, take away the right's excuse to allow voting computers to remain connected to the internet. This is by far the biggest threat currently to fair elections.

Ballot stuffing is a problem. Hoping they'll address that. Doubt it.

No it isn't.

You've allowed yourself to be duped by the likes of Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity and your lord god and savior Donald Jesus Christ Trump.

The power mongers of the GOP don't believe elections are rigged nor that there is any substantive voter fraud nor that the voter fraud the is committed (which is ultimately insignificant) is often committed by conservatives/republicans.

They only want to talk about voter fraud to wip up the angst of their gullible (and apparently angry) constituents.

So a guy I know was complaining about voter fraud.

So I said, "Maybe we should have some voting monitors/observers... maybe from other countries... to watch our elections and make sure there is no fraud."

This guy replied, "No one is going to come to America and tell us what to do!"

I laughed at him.

He didn't like me laughing at him.

There are laws to prevent ballot stuffing and prosecute those who do. There are cases of voter fraud prosecuted successfully every year. The net result in fraudulent votes doesn't come anywhere near the 7 million popular votes Trump was defeated by. It would be impossible to stuff that many ballots.

The internet does provide a way to alter votes with vulnerable machines attached to the internet. A voting precinct with a predicted close call would be most opportune. A slight alteration in the count in such a precinct could throw the vote and provide an opportunity to give more electoral votes to a candidate.

A bill that requires voting machines to be disconnected from the internet should receive bi-partisan support.

They also need to remove thermostats from voting locations:

Jeffrey Clark, a Justice Department official appointed by former President Donald Trump, told senior officials that China used thermostats to change ballots in the 2020 presidential election.

In a recently released email originally sent December 2020, Clark asked his superiors — including acting attorney general Jeffrey Rosen and deputy Richard Donoghue — to look into "foreign election interference issues."

Clark claimed hackers had evidence that "a Dominion machine accessed the Internet through a smart thermostat with a net connection trail leading back to China."

Seriously? I'd love to see that link. Do you think the Chinese wanted Trump to win?
Either way, voting machines attached to the internet at all is a breach of security that affects a rudimentary part of our democracy. It affects the perception of legitimacy of the voting process.

HR1 is a good bill and should be passed.

No.

The Chinese are not all that concerned with the muddling of "Western" politics.

It is enough for them to have Putin in their pocket.

This is the guy trump wanted to appoint AG.

And haven't you noticed, China is the new rising "Enemy".
I guess GOPers don't want to offend Putin.

Notice how Joe Manchin, who's used his position to sabotage the democrats agenda, has now supported a watered down version of the rebuild act but STILL hasn't supported the voter fraud act (HR1 For the People Act).

He's managed to divert attention away from the ability of hackers to alter the data in voting machines hooked up to the internet in a midterm election year. Notice how Trump backed GOPers seem to be winning their parties primaries for seats in Congress.
