But just like New York just like all of these other blue metropolitan areas the attitude is I will vote for a corpse before I vote Republican. And the evidence is in. We have a puppet in the White House a man who can barely complete a sentence no kidding. But that’s fine because he can be directed by woke ism —ideology does not need intelligence.

Of course the exact same thing could be said of deep Red states. They'd rather vote for a corpse before voting Democrat, but of course such thinking isn't AT ALL indicative of a blind ideological push like it is for the Dems, right?

National divorce.

Sort by ideology.

I don't have the answers A - Z.

The US is being destroyed from within. This is a fact.

In previous decades I've listened to interviews with a dozen of "moderate" Democrats who would make great leaders.

Also, the GOP needs to remember that reaching out in compromise will be looked upon with disdain.

George W Bush was laughed at for his "Compassionate Conservative" initiative. Why do we care if Hitler loved dogs when he's still Hitler.

What made Trump such a volatile leader for the GOP was that he didn't apologize for his existence. In that sense, he assumed of himself in the same way his enemies assumed of themselves.

His mother should apologize for his existence, and the GOP should apologize for his rise.

He is CONSUMED with himself.

What made Trump such a volatile leader for the GOP…?

It was his love of the Bible.

All hail our lord god Donald Jesus Christ Trump.

Trump was not a volatile leader. Trump used volatile rhetoric. His actions were for the most part moderate and/or in line with the Republican party's established doctrine.

What did he do that we would not expect from other Republican presidents?

Well to answer your question, he acted. "We're building a big beautiful wall and Mexico is going to pay for it." Doubt Mexico ever felt the financial impact but he did start (almost complete) a wall on the southern border.

The oncoming president is pretty much acting as the anti-Trump; anything Trump did has to be undone so, therefore, stop the wall (or whatever). Bet the folks in Del Rio today are wishing Trump's immigration policy was in place.

I agree the wall was a little over the top, but it fit's in perfectly with Republican attitudes. I believe the wall was a result of his opening his mouth in the first place. He stuck his foot in there to get elected and then ended up having to build the thing. Mexico wasn't going to pay for it.

Having a physical border between two nations isn't that uncommon. It hadn't been done on that particular border due to it's length and the lack of a need to. I'm not sure how much of it has been finished but it doesn't seem to be deterring anyone from getting across.

Except his wall was never built.

Mostly it was repairing some of the existing walls, and putting up a few miles of wall.. some of which fell over.

Trump wasted a lot of money, some diverted from our defense budget, to not build his wall.

Democrats might be tax and spend liberals, but Republicans are don’t tax but spend just as much or more conservatives.

I agree with all these points.

I think the lesson to be learned here is that rhetoric designed to appeal to the unsavvy can result in things like the Jan 6 protests. It appeals to the emotions and leads the intellect on a purely illogical path. It affords it's inventor with power over the masses. Now just need to figure out who was talking through Trump's head.

Right. The physical wall is a minor deterrent. But the hype and messaging and attention focused on maintaining the border was actually a huge deterrent for people who just want to escape their country and travel across the border.

Again the story going on right now, Border control is over-run and isn't empowered to do their job. VP Harris was supposed to fix this but hasn't started (she's perpetually a college freshman getting high the night before her term paper is due and never ginning up the nerve to write the damn thing).

No one.

Trump ran through advisors like diarrhoea. There were so many good people who took the axe or somehow got canned or straight up quit.

I'm still upset about General Mattis.

My point here is that he was determined to do what he wanted. No one can be blamed for Trump's choices but Trump. He was no puppet for sure.

Right? The rhetoric and even cinema has been selling everyone on the "limits" to police power. It's an effort to take away restrictions that keep our law enforcement and justice system honest. It culminated in the very unpatriotic Patriot Act.

If that had been the case, Trump would have done better had he pushed for the GOP Controlled Congress to make a real effort at immigration reform legislation….

Legislation that would’ve called for extreme penalties for any US persons or companies hiring illegal immigrants… after all, if there’s no way for them to make money, there’s no way for them to stay.… And no reason to come in the first place.

But we all know that isn’t what Trump did.

He really didn’t give a s***.

He just knew how to dupe his willfully ignorant followers with a bunch of bulls***…

And as we can see in this thread it worked.
