But now Portland wants to ban travel to Texas. Geez I wonder if anybody in Texas is really sad about that. That’s like a double blessing right babies get to be born and nobody from Portland shows up.

Let's just call this

"Texas is Awesome" thread

Today the Governor signed into law an Election Integrity Bill

This is a winning strategy because everyone wants a free and fair election, without a doubt!

Well done citizens of Texas!!!!

I read somewhere some proposal of a solution to the election fight: Have a national ID card that is given to everyone upon turning 18 (most countries in Europe already do this), and, with that, automatic voter registration. This ID card must be presented at every election when voting (or cross-checked on a database if voting by mail).

This way, voter ID laws that the GOP constantly vouch for can be satisfied, and in a way that doesn’t put roadblocks at voter access that Dems fear with such laws.

But no. No, no, no. …… nonononono … NO.

We know that the GOP won’t like that solution because we all know the real reason they want to pass election “integrity” laws really have nothing to do with that and everything to do with limiting the vote.

Biden:

"This is not about freedom or personal choice."

Texas:

"Game set match. Welcome to the pro-life movement Mr President."

I'd rather be in Tijuana
Eating Bar-B-Q'd iguana

I had some "interesting" cactus fajitas one time. Upscale restaurant, not some street vendor.

So, in response to the Texas law, an Illinois state representative filed a proposed bill in the Illinois legislature that allows any citizen to sue anyone who commits an act of domestic violence or sexual assault, or causes an unwanted pregnancy, for a minimum award of $10,000.

And so it begins.

First doctor to get sued!

Take it to the supreme court!!

As the Anti-Vaxers are arguing in front of SCOTUS "My Body! My Choice!!"
The Pro-Choice defense can argue "My Body! My Choice!!"

The most useful thing about abortion rights is the issue's ability to create a divide in the American mindset. This flashpoint issue helps entrench people's loyalty to "one side" or the other.

Therefore, it helps control people's minds.

Take a pro abortion rights individual who weighs this issue as part of women's rights. To this person women's rights are the most important issue. Since the left has their party planks defined the person may go along with other issues the party supports that they don't necessarily agree with. The left seems very focused on internet censorship these days for instance. Taking people's rights to bear arms would make a fascist uprising easy. If some group of armed white supremacists took over their town how would they defend themselves?

Take a person who is anti choice. To this person it's the most important issue and they will probably vote right. If a fascist demagogue right winger were to take over the party with a gang of quasi political thugs this person would fail to see the warning signs having been blinded by their feelings on this issue.

Flashpoint issues like this serve as a way to ignite people's passions, not their brains. All that is necessary is a way to stir the pot occasionally. The biggest plus is it keeps people on opposite sides of the fence from talking to each; neither side can see how they are being played if they never compare notes.

If you think the people with money and power care about this issue you are sadly mistaken. If Jenna Bush were to have gotten pregnant and her father (George Bush Jr-pro life) were to have wanted her to get rid of it no problem. She could have gotten the best doctor in the world and no one would ever know about it, even if it were illegal. This issue is for the masses to fight over, not for the people who rule.
