I just find it funny that the excuse the free market types used to justify moral panic outrages for literal decades now 'suddenly' doesn't fly anymore when it's used against them. It's not just '[product] will corrupt our youth', it was also '[store or chain] shouldn't even be selling or promoting this [product] because it will corrupt our youth'. These people are the ones who actively ecnouraged corporations to treat the storefront as a reflection of the publisher and vice versa. "They're acting like publishers vs media platform" because that's literally what the moral panic types have been treating them as for literal decades.
Hi there. I am indeed a "free market" type. I am not a "moral panic type" partly because I've not let you define your terms and I've never used that term about myself. Civil society is crumbling and it is because of moral decline but there simply isn't a call for panic as panic never helps.
About me:
One on the largest umbrella terms I use to describe myself is "classical liberal" as promoted by Hobbes. The US Founders gave us a system that works best under local control, separation of powers, and governance by elected officials. Society most always works best when operated by non-governmental offices in civil society Chiefly The Family (a husband and wife in life-long union) and The Church (which itself is a picture of Marriage: The Bridegroom Jesus and His bride The confessing Body of Believers). In addition to being a Hobbes liberal, I believe in Capitalism. Capitalism offers the most opportunity to the most people and there simply isn't a better system this side of heaven.
I also consider myself to be a social conservative in the vein of William F Buckley and George F Will. Most importantly, I consider myself a Reform Protestant Christian.
Now, back to my earlier comment--
After the midterms the GOP members of Congress (the last conscientious governing party with a soul) need to put forth bills to enact reforms targeting multi-national coorporations and big tech.
In the exact same way Congress broke up Ma Bell back in the 80's
The goal here is to promote competition, to provide the average guy a choice, and to discourage those media platforms from "disappearing" political and religious voices that the prevailing culture finds distasteful.
Shun Trump if you want, but he gets a platform somewhere.
See, in a free society, speech is combated with speech.
This is personal because I've been directly affected. I'm at the TFS instead of Reddit because at Reddit they have a democratic voting system that silences unpopular views.
Pure democracy is a horrible idea. The US Founders knew that.
The question here is, why are you so terribly frightened of Donald Trump (really his supporters) that you promote de-platforming?
**by the way I'm aware Hobbes predates the US**
