The State has rested and Chauvin didn't testify so the jury has begun deliberations ( CNBC ). Some people are already protesting and the jury is still out ( WRAL ). New York, Miami, Minneapolis and other cities are bracing for riots. WOW.

What does everyone think? Is Chauvin guilty? If so, what is he guilty of? 1st degree murder, 2nd degree, manslaughter, negligent homicide?

I'd say negligent homicide at least.

Did they say that Chauvin and Floyd had a history?

Is there aggravated manslaughter?
He was mad but maybe didn't mean to kill him?

... It's just hard for me to think someone would purposely kill someone like that in front of others.

From his training and position, he should have been aware of potential consequences (death) of his actions.

And all that comes into how the lawyers play the game. Try to present options that don't fit the circumstances, so they have to say Not Guilty.

That happened in a case not too long ago. The way the judge instructed the jury, and the definitions of the charges, the jury knew the defendant was guilty of Something - just not specifically the charges they had to choose from.

I agree with your assessment. Even if he actually died from drug overdose the officer is still responsible for his safety once he had Floyd detained. If someone is saying "I can't breathe" the logical, human thing to do is take your knee off his neck and get him medical attention.

They did know each other; they were employed by the same night club as bouncers. If the prosecution could prove motive a 2nd degree or maybe even 1st degree conviction could have been obtained. I don't think the prosecution succeeded or even tried to do that.

Yup, let's hope it sticks; there will be the inevitable appeal I'm sure.

Yeah, thanks to Maxine Waters.

Seems to me people need to learn the art of keeping their mouth shut these days. Nancy Pelosi had a puzzling response as well.

They should have learned from the GOP plenty by now how much words can easily be used against them by the other side. Biden at least seems to have learned this.
